Niger defender Saminou Salissou Nouhou has been named Player of the Match following his side’s 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the Group B clash at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship which serves as the 2027 U17 AFCON Qualifiers.
Nouhou earned the individual accolade after playing a key role in Niger’s impressive performance, helping his side secure all three points in the encounter played at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.
Niger made a bright start to the contest, taking the lead in the 19th minute through Abdoul Razak, who capitalised on the opportunity to put his side ahead.
The young Nigeriens continued to compete strongly and doubled their advantage in the 86th minute when Abdoul Rakilou found the back of the net, giving his side a comfortable cushion late in the game.
Nigeria managed to pull one back through substitute Mubarak Fasiu during additional time, but Niger held on to claim a crucial 2-1 victory.
Nouhou’s recognition capped an important outing for the Nigerien defender as his team strengthened their position in Group B with four points from two matches, following their opening 1-1 draw against Ivory Coast.
Niger will now await the outcome of the final Group B encounter between Ivory Coast and Nigeria to confirm their progression, while the two sides battle for the remaining semi-final spot.
