Hosts Burkina Faso secured their first victory at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship after edging past Togo 1-0 in a keenly contested Group A encounter.
Both sides battled fiercely in the first half, with neither team able to break the deadlock as the contest remained evenly balanced.
However, Burkina Faso returned from the break with renewed determination and eventually found the breakthrough through Komi Abdou, who scored the only goal of the game from a header to send the home supporters into celebration.
The decisive strike proved enough for the hosts to claim all three points, as they held on to their slender advantage until the final whistle despite Togo’s efforts to find an equaliser.
The victory represents an important boost for Burkina Faso, who now have four points from their opening two matches in Group A following their earlier goalless draw against Benin.
The hosts will now turn their attention to a crucial final group-stage encounter against Ghana on Friday, with both sides set to battle for the top spot in the group.
For Togo, the defeat leaves them with work to do as they seek to revive their campaign and keep their qualification hopes alive.
