Ghana’s Alidu Issah named Player of the Match after brace powers Ghana to victory

Ghana forward Alidu Issah has been named Player of the Match following his outstanding performance in the Black Starlets’ 3-1 victory over Benin at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship.

The young striker played a decisive role in Ghana’s second Group A match, scoring twice to help the team secure all three points and strengthen their position in the competition.

Issah opened the scoring for Ghana just four minutes into the game before doubling his tally to put the Black Starlets in a commanding position on the 8th minute. His clinical finishing proved crucial as the West African giants continued their impressive run in the tournament.

Benin attempted to fight back and reduced the deficit in the 31st minute through Abel Isegnon, giving their side hope of mounting a comeback before the break.

However, Ghana maintained their attacking momentum after the interval, with Nii Odoi Tawiah adding a third goal to seal an emphatic 3-1 victory for the Black Starlets.

Issah’s brace and overall contribution to Ghana’s attacking display earned him the individual accolade, capping an impressive outing for the young forward.

The Black Starlets will now look to build on the victory as they continue their quest for qualification to the next stage of the WAFU B U17 Championship.
